The Textile Museum is hosting an exhibit of contemporary Japanese fashion from the collection of Mary Baskett. The collection contains about 40 garments from designers such as Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto. You’ll notice influences of traditional Japanese garments as well as origami in many of the designs.
Associate curator Lee Talbot is giving a gallery talk and tour of the collection on October 24 at 11 AM. The talk is free.
The exhibit will be open from October 17 through April 11, 2010. You’ll find the Textile Museum at 2320 S Street, NW,. It is closest the Dupont Circle on the Red Line. Admission to the museum is free, but they do suggest a $5 donation.
